What was your most memorable experience (good or bad) from the pre-race period? In the comment section below, please indicate why it was the most memorable.
#Response DatePlease indicate why it was the most memorable
Jul 12, 2010 4:39 AMNothing really stands out, I didn't give much thought to it prior to the race.p
Jul 12, 2010 4:49 AMTraining with new people
Jul 12, 2010 4:57 AMHad a mishap during carpool to race start & ended up not starting with large training group. It all worked out fine in the end though.
Jul 12, 2010 5:04 AMI live in Kent, WA so I didn't have any experience with pre race activities.
Jul 12, 2010 5:12 AMMy two training partners and I were so excited when we got the news that all three of us got into the race.
Jul 12, 2010 5:21 AMBecause I live on Vancouver Island wasn't able to attend any of the training runs. I wish I could have because I am sure that would have been a great opportunity to meet some great people while getting in some extra trail miles.
Jul 12, 2010 5:28 AMI did almost all the training by myself because of work commitments, so I enjoyed the solo runs
Jul 12, 2010 5:28 AMnothing really stands out in this department.
Jul 12, 2010 5:31 AMDoing the kk route in the Club Fat Ass Vancouver 100 event.
Jul 12, 2010 5:32 AMI met lots of great people during the training runs.
Jul 12, 2010 5:36 AMPre-race runs with friends.
Jul 12, 2010 5:38 AMThey are all a good chance to meet people and chat as well as getting the training in
Jul 12, 2010 5:40 AMBuilding my mileage week after week and enjoying training again as I did a few years ago.
Jul 12, 2010 5:42 AMThe training runs were awesome, meeting the people in the run and Glenn was great as run leader, so was Clive for the Wednesday night runs.
Jul 12, 2010 5:43 AMFrom this branched a smaller training run group that was able to meet at other times during the week. Has created new friendship avenues.
Jul 12, 2010 5:59 AMAs I said earlier.... this event is off my list for good.
Jul 12, 2010 6:00 AMThoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and the tremendously supportive environment.
Jul 12, 2010 6:01 AMSupport from the RD to keep in the race after forgetting to pick up my race package on Friday night before the race.
Jul 12, 2010 6:01 AMBecause my girlfriend Rhonda Altman had done it 3 times before.
Jul 12, 2010 6:02 AMmost memorable, because i never win a lottery!!!!! HAHA.
Jul 12, 2010 6:05 AMThere is a very strong bias towards people who are on the North Shore or in Vancouver, or have easy access to those areas with race package pick-up and the like. Although this has not really been a problem, it is still worth mentioning. ਀ It might be an idea to put some items up on the race website that allows groups of runners who come from other areas to meet up for training runs - like those from the Okanagan, Washington, or Vancouver Island etc.
Jul 12, 2010 6:07 AMGreat job encouraging many people to come out, even those that lost the lottery.
Jul 12, 2010 6:11 AMComing from out of town, I appreciated the RD's flexibility towards the "mandatory" pre-race meeting, and her patience in walking me through the course and orienting me over the phone.
Jul 12, 2010 6:21 AMgetting selected in the lottery, and the work party was good, unfortunately I was not able to train. But went on one of the runs, and it was good jus tbeing with everyone.
Jul 12, 2010 7:08 AMWas not very involved in pre race activity.
Jul 12, 2010 7:35 AMMore people are wanting to enter the race and the lottery is becoming more competitive.
Jul 12, 2010 12:41 PMKKNSTR is a total experience. It's pretty hard to choose any "most" memorable aspects
Jul 12, 2010 2:00 PMI was not able to attend most of the pre-race activities due to family schedules, so just being selected was the most memorable.
Jul 12, 2010 2:25 PMNo experience in particular stands out.
Jul 12, 2010 2:32 PMThe first 3/4 training run. Bad because it was a kick in the teeth to get to Black Mountain the first time, but also good to experience it before race day.
Jul 12, 2010 2:42 PMAnkle injury during a training run which kept me off my feet for 5 weeks. Was very hard to consider I might not be able to run this year.
Jul 12, 2010 2:57 PMBecause I didn't expect it to be so much fun, such hard work and so rewarding...we really did a great job!!
Jul 12, 2010 3:14 PMI live in Kelowna so just the tradition of going to the race every year
Jul 12, 2010 3:17 PMMost memorable experience before the race was some pretty heavy anxiety!
Jul 12, 2010 3:45 PMNot been able to attend most training runs and being injured made the training period a little trying at times as I was so looking forward to the training runs with folks but it all was good in the end.
Jul 12, 2010 4:01 PMBecause we had done it before we did most of our training in a smaller group and not with the organized training runs. However, when we met those knackers in training on the trails it was always with a sense of humour and commaderie.
Jul 12, 2010 4:05 PM"Oh my god, I'm actually going to do this!"
Jul 12, 2010 4:48 PMhad some difficulty finding my way on the training runs and felt like i was alone in the woods a lot which didn't feel safe or wise.
Jul 12, 2010 5:10 PMGood camaraderie.
Jul 12, 2010 5:35 PMI really enjoy the comaraderie of doing the training runs and having fun with the other runners.
Jul 12, 2010 5:44 PMEveryone applied themselves with enthusiasm and energy and left with a feeling of satisfaction at the resulting improvements to the trail.
Jul 12, 2010 6:20 PMI attended 4 training runs and enjoyed the company and the routes very much.
Jul 12, 2010 7:04 PMGetting Prepared and looking forward to the actual date. Running with fellow runners that were doing the race and talking about the tough portions of the route and running them in ever changing conditions.
Jul 12, 2010 7:06 PMThe organized training runs allow anticipation to build and friendships to be made.
Jul 12, 2010 7:31 PMI always like the training runs as you get to know the other runners and test your level of fitness.
Jul 12, 2010 7:33 PMI was nervous a few days before the lottery that I wouldn't be picked, because I really wanted to do it this year. It was a relief when I was selected, because then I knew I could start my training in earnest.
Jul 12, 2010 9:00 PMThe first 3/4 training run was memorable because it had photographers practicing for race day, and we got our photos posted on the web.
Jul 12, 2010 9:05 PMthe one where it just did everthing under the sun ( but no sun) i.e rain , hail and wet snow. It was from Cleveland dam up to the Cypress upper lot.
Jul 12, 2010 9:29 PMfirst time applied and got selected!
Jul 12, 2010 9:33 PMMet a ton of great people who I will continue to run with despite the race being over.
Jul 12, 2010 9:56 PMInteracting with all of the new participants as well as the veterans.
Jul 12, 2010 10:23 PMTraining with my running partner and friends
Jul 12, 2010 10:43 PMThe Wed night runs organized by Clive are great fun and a good opportunity to run with others at my pace.
Jul 12, 2010 11:11 PMThe group I train with start our training runs earlier in the morning than the Knacker training so that our spouses don't divorce us. We sometimes run into the group along the trail and it's really fun to see so many running buddys.
Jul 12, 2010 11:47 PMI like the training runs but think that they should be aided. A check in at the begining and a half way aid station check in. I spent many hours alone on the trails. I think that it would not take much to find some volunteers to help with the 4 plus hour training runs.
Jul 13, 2010 12:08 AMOne of the very snowy training runs, we were all laughing like crazy as we were freezing cold and slipping and sliding around on the Hollyburn trails . It was such a good contrast from the rather sensible lives that most of us lead on a day to day basis. Good to feel so alive again, like when we were young and crazy!
Jul 13, 2010 12:26 AMThe first 3/4. The longest run EVER for me!
Jul 13, 2010 1:27 AMsharing stories and experiences on the training runs with friends new and old
Jul 13, 2010 1:50 AMI sustained injury shortly after being selected in the lottery. My lead up to the Knacker pretty much sucked because of that. I wasn't able to race.
Jul 13, 2010 1:59 AMShortly after registration I was injured and realized I would not be able to compete.
Jul 13, 2010 3:34 AMGlenn Pace humor was fantastic. I truly enjoyed his leadership and how he handled the whole thing.
Jul 13, 2010 3:37 AMLiving in Ottawa it was impossible to take part in any of the pre-race training runs or trail days.
Jul 13, 2010 4:17 AMGreat training runs; lots of nice people and good fun. most memorable run was the nasty Hollyburn peak in sleat....but i like that sort of thing.
Jul 13, 2010 4:23 AMI had the most fun at the training runs, and met a lot of great people.
Jul 13, 2010 4:49 AMcatching up. meeting new folks. helping out
Jul 13, 2010 4:56 AMA great group of supportive runners.
Jul 13, 2010 5:01 AMRunning in the snow at black mountain when there were no race markings (due to the fact it was a training run) and got lost...only for a little bit...਀ It still wasn't a bad experience.
Jul 13, 2010 5:31 AMthey were hard, sometimes great running, sometimes just long and wet
Jul 13, 2010 9:33 AMTraining runs helped me to gain confidence and prepared me ready to face the challenge.
Jul 13, 2010 9:37 PMThe out and back to the top of Seymour Grind was the worst run of my life! That said, it was the best preparation for the race that I could have ever recieved. The race was a piece of cake in comparison! No idea why but that run is TOUGH!
Jul 14, 2010 1:07 AMI have been trying to get in for quite a few years since 2005 got selected in 2007 and this year
Jul 14, 2010 4:42 AMBeing in the race makes March to July a quest; some of the training runs were spectacular. The race committee and the volunteers are icing on the cake.
Jul 14, 2010 7:58 PMGOOD: Wednesday runs were particularly painful (hate the British Properties) yet these are what made my race experience (time) so successful

Jul 23, 2010 3:06 PMpushing myself to train so I will at least finish.
Aug 3, 2010 3:35 AMthe best part of KK is the training. nothing can compare to the friendships, the fun, the laughs, the discussions from trivial to solving world issues, everything is positive. even the injuries.
