Welcome to 2012, Knee Knacker runners!

Hello, fellow trail runners & welcome to the 24th running of the Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run!

Planning is already underway, and I’m excited to be kicking off another ‘Knee Knacker Season’. I want to start by thanking our committee members (Enzo Federico, Julie Flynn, Rod Hatfull, Patricia Jensen, Tim Jones, Bev McKenna, Dennis Marchant, Glenn Pace, Jeff Trigg and Andrew Wong), volunteers, sponsors and runners who make this such a great event to be a part of. THANK YOU!

As our trail running community continues to grow and we see the sport of ultra-running getting more and more ‘press’, we recognize the impact that a run like the Knee Knacker can have, and we have some exciting ideas about how to evolve the run. I’ll share more of these ideas over the coming months, but for now the key info leading up to the lottery is below.

Entry Deadline

Mark your calendars! This year’s entry deadline is February 29, 2012. Entry info is available on our registration page. You can also check out the entry confirmation page to verify your registration. We already have more entrants than ever before at this time of year. Thank you for your continued support!

Entry Requirement

The entry requirement of 4 hours of community volunteer work is in place for 2012. You must meet this requirement between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012, and this can be done in the community of your choice. I get questions about this every year; this can be volunteer hours of your choice, not related to Knee Knacker and completely geographically independent. You don’t need anyone ‘sign’ for your hours, you just need to fill in the online Volunteer Requirements form after meeting this requirement. We must receive this information by June 30, 2012. We recognize that many people already contribute numerous hours for many different causes and we thank you for this.

Runners Night and Lottery

We have historically had a Runners Night get-together to announce the Lottery Results however, that will be changing this year. We have decided to move even further into this century and do a LIVE ONLINE LOTTERY! The lottery process itself is not changing, rather we will post the results name by name as they are drawn so that everyone can share the real-time excitement and anticipation. Our plan is to post lottery winner names on our Knee Knacker Facebook group throughout the evening and then post the (complete) official list on the website the same night. So mark your calendars for Monday, March 5…more details to follow!

Training Runs

Join your fellow Knee Knackerers for the official Knee Knacker training runs. These will begin the first weekend in May. There’s no charge and everyone (including those not in the lottery, and friends and family) is welcome.

Race Weekend

Race weekend will be an exciting time. Packet pickup will be available on July 12 & 13 with a race briefing on July 13 (mandatory for first time runners). Stay tuned for the location. July 14 will see the 24th Knee Knacker start at 6am, and the banquet will complete the evening.

Communications

From time to time, we will email you with race updates, however more often we will post key info on this site and have informal updates on our Facebook group. We have a Twitter feed that you can follow too.

We’re here to put on an extraordinary event and to help you meet your goals. If you have any comments or questions, please contact any of the 2012 KKNSTR committee members using our contacts form, or just give me a call.

I look forward to seeing you on the trails!
