Course Update – Route Description from Black Mountain to CypressPlease note: the course will follow the official re-route of the Baden-Powell trail from Black Mountain to Cypress. This is a change from last year, so please read the following description carefully. If you get to the Black Mountain Chairlift, you are off course & have gone too far! The new Baden-Powell trail starts shortly (3-5 minutes) after the first aid station - the Black Mountain Heli-Pad. After you leave the aid station, you start descending and pretty quickly you get to the cabin lake area where there's a boardwalk and you have to take a sharp right to stay on course. So far, everything is as usual, BUT, once you take that sharp right, about 100 meters away is a white sign that indicates a trail that is the “Baden-Powell Re-Route to Cypress Base”. Here, you take a sharp LEFT that you can miss if you're looking straight ahead (historically, you'd go straight here). This will be very well marked on race day, but it is a significant change, so please keep your eyes open after you leave the first aid station. The new BP itself is quite well marked with new orange diamonds – about halfway down, the switchbacks get quite steep, but the good news is that you get to the Cypress parking lot quicker. |
