What a beautiful day we had this Sunday. The sun was
beaming and the temperature was perfect for our 3 to 4 hour run into the
Lynn Valley area and back - cool and calm. We had a big group of
course, 36 people, and we might expect even more next week as runners
fully recover from the Vancouver Marathon last week.
I'm glad to say everyone was wearing shorts, especially Francine.
But there were several battered knees to be found, including our fearless
training run leader, Curb Ivanic. It seems that Curb was minding his
own business while road running the other day and he managed to trip ...
over a curb I think. Better stick to the trails Curb ... that scab
was lookin' nasty!
As always, many runners did either more or less than the schedule
called for. Some went into Lynn Headwaters and some turned around
before reaching Lynn Canyon. My group went to the Rice Lake parking
lot where the 3/4 checkpoint sits on race day. We headed back up the
steep climb from Lynn Headwaters and up through the Mount Fromme
area. This is always a challenging and unending climb but somehow it
gets easier every time (that's my crazy side talking).
Next week we'll be meeting at Grouse again, 8:00 a.m. However,
we'll likely make a decision at that time whether or not to go the whole
way up Old Grouse Mountain Highway as the schedule states. There's
still lots of snow up there. And I wouldn't plan on coming down the
Grind either. When I was up recently I found it rather treacherous
near the top with all the snow.
Happy running! And remember that May is a good month to push hard
on the hills to be ready for the big day.
